back up your back up.
thankfully i’ve learned this lesson through others and have never really lost an entire hard drive of photos. get an external hard drive, burn CD’s and store them at your mother’s house, use an online storage site like Flickr or Box.net.
Don’t use just one. Use them all. Back up your back up. Hard drives die, CDs get scratched, storage sites servers crash or go out of business. and while all of these things could happen you can be assured that they probably wont happen all at once.
this is me right now:
this is me worrying about my first overnight trip away from izzy. this is me having a stomach ache because i am afraid i will miss something. this is me already trying to plan the return trip home so i can get back as soon as possible but not seem like an obsessive freak to my friend i will be road tripping with. this is me, freaking the F out over something i should be excited about.
I am taking a road trip to hershey, pa with one of my closest friends, kiely, to see one of our favorite artists, ben folds. i am not at all worried about taking a road trip with kiely. heck, we survived the hell beast together (a nasty, nasty freak of a housemate). we can survive anything together – even a road trip. maybe.
will she be able to sense my freaking out? probably. will she tolerate it? boy,do i hope so.
izzy will be fine. i know this to be a fact. she is in the hands of her very capable father. but i swear if she has some kind of major milestone while i am gone like pooping in the potty or writing her first haiku, i swear to you i will drown in a river of tears and never leave the house without her again.
i am trying to get excited about this trip. i love ben and as an added bonus katie miller-heidke will be there too! My friend has helped to get me a little excited at the prospect of Ben doing chatroulette while on stage. He did it at a show in North Carolina. it was pretty much the most awesome thing ever.
so wish me luck. i know izzy will survive…but will i?
Christian and I often talk over IM (when he is home) or via text message when he is at work. Usually it’s little things like ‘We need milk’ or talking about our favorite morning show, Preston & Steve, as we listen to it. Every once in awhile, we have conversations that truly demonstrate what a couple of sickos we are.
This is one of my favorites from January of last year:
christianB: (2:46:20 PM) hmm., not sure i should tell you this
christianB: (2:46:37 PM) i put izzy on the bed n went to make her bottle
mommabrown: (2:46:53 PM) ok…
christianB: (2:46:55 PM) lol i come back to check on her, shes sittin on her ass on the floor happily lookin around
mommabrown: (2:47:11 PM) omg. i guess she rolled off?
christianB: (2:48:52 PM) i think she slid down to the floor cuz the comforter was over the edge to the floor
christianB: (2:49:06 PM) an there was no sound
mommabrown: (2:49:29 PM) if a baby rolls of a bed and there’s no one around, does it make a sound?
christianB: (2:49:31 PM) i come back an im like WTF you doin on the floor
mommabrown: (2:50:15 PM) nice
christianB: (2:50:22 PM) oh and her one eye fell out
mommabrown: (2:50:25 PM) jackass
christianB: (2:50:27 PM) then tai ate it
mommabrown: (2:50:32 PM) shut up!
I am fairly certain that snot will win. This is what is left on my shirt after an hour of blotting, scraping and blow-torching.
Why must she use me as a tissue right as I am walking out the door for work? Whats worse is that i didnt even notice it for at least a half hour. By then it had already set up. Now I have booger shoulder.
Izzy had a pretty nasty cold last week. We took her to the doc to have her checked out and the doctor said everything seemed fine. That she might have a touch of croup but it was nothing to worry about. Well, by monday a touch turned into a full on slap. this poor kid has been hacking her lungs out all night long since monday night.
We were finally able to get her back into the doctor today. She definitely has croup but the doctor decided not to treat it with steroids since izzy’s lungs sound clear. we also discovered that she has a double ear infection – though at this point it seems to be mild. That is being treated with antibiotics.
For once, izzy had a great time at the doctor’s office. she was loving the blood pressure bulbs. But mostly she wanted to get at the used needle box on the wall. eek!
